Back in March I wrote a post titled “Why Modesty is Important.” It is my most read post by far. I decided I would build on this idea by asking a similar question: why is purity so important? A lot of Christian girls care about it, but why?
Romance and relationships are topics that we come in contact with on a daily basis. Our culture is enthralled with the physical and emotional relationships of guys and girls. With all of this influence (usually negative), how are girls expected to remain pure, both physically and emotionally, until marriage?
It isn’t impossible, but it’s hard. And we need to ask ourselves the question: why is it so important to us? Why do we even bother?
The answer to that question is in 1 Corinthians 1:16, the same verse we used to validate the importance of modesty. Purity is something that should be important to us because our bodies aren’t ours; they’re God’s. And one day, we will be judged by how we acted in them. One day, it will be our failure or success in purity that determines our eternity.
“Our life purpose as Christians should be to glorify God in all we think, say, do, and feel. Verse 20 of 1 Corinthians 6 tells us to glorify God in our bodies. If we are living our lives to please and glorify the Lord, our bodies and outward appearance should be no exception.” — Why Modesty is Important, Project Virtue.
Take a stand. Fight for purity, and live with virtue.
