Modesty: Who’s it For?

As Christian girls, we probably already have a basic idea of the importance of modesty and why it’s necessary. But, have we ever thought about why it is we’re dressing and acting modestly? Is it for ourselves, so that we may be doing what we’re supposed to do? Is it for guys, so we don’t put a stumbling block in front of them? Or is it for other girls, so we provide an example of good conduct and wise decisions?

Ultimately, all of those people and examples will be positively affected by modesty. But, none of these people should be the main reason we choose to dress modestly.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says: Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Everything we do in our bodies should be to the glory of God. When we choose to dress modestly, we should be doing it to bring glory to Him through our dress and actions. We should strive to live daily for the glory of God, not living for the world and what it thinks of us, but for the Lord to be the reason for all of our actions.

That being said, we also need to be considerate of guys when we decide what to wear. I’m not talking about “dressing to impress”. I’m talking about dressing modestly so that you won’t cause guys to stumble when they’re around you. We need to be conscious of this when we choose to dress a certain way.

Modesty is something God cares about. He wants us to do everything to His glory. If you are struggling with modesty, pray for His guidance. If we can help in any way, contact us!

With love,
